Day 23. Santorini

It’s...............Groundhog day.

Swim. Late breakfast. This is becoming predictable.
Anyway after all this excitement we took two buses to Kamari which had been recommended to us by the OB’s. We arrived about 1.15 and immediately sought out the restaurant also recommended. I introduced us and said we were friends of Jill and Shane and we were welcomed like family. We said we wanted to climb the hill behind the town and he insisted we take some water which he would not accept money for. He also said most people climb it early in the day before the heat sets in!
So off we trotted up this bloody great hill in 32 degree temps. We followed a switchback road until near the top where we bought tickets to what is left of an ancient town perched on top of the hill. Absolutely amazing how they lived up there. It was incredibly windy and very blustery which at times made us unsteady on our feet. This place dates to the 3rd century BC and it is just remarkable what is left and how clever they were in designing a sewage system and how they collected enough fresh water.

We descended via a walking track which added its own challenges with sections of loose scoria and prickle bushes for the unwary (Robyn).
We came upon the tiniest little church carved into the the rock which was very beautiful and adjacent to it a cave containing a natural spring. Nice and cool inside and beautiful running cool water.

Once we descended we headed for the beach and a well earned swim, followed by refreshments at the beach bar.

We then adjourned for more refreshments and an early dinner (which was superb) at the Captains Table as recommended by Jill. We saw the picture Jill painted of the Captain proudly displayed on the wall, very impressive work.

Two buses home, swim in the pool and more refreshments.
We may stay here until Christmas. Kids if you are reading this... send more money!
