Day 23. Santorini

Image
It’s...............Groundhog day. Swim. Late breakfast. This is becoming predictable. Anyway after all this excitement we took two buses to Kamari which had been recommended to us by the OB’s. We arrived about 1.15 and immediately sought out the restaurant also recommended. I introduced us and said we were friends of Jill and Shane and we were welcomed like family. We said we wanted to climb the hill behind the town and he insisted we take some water which he would not accept money for. He also said most people climb it early in the day before the heat sets in! So off we trotted up this bloody great hill in 32 degree temps. We followed a switchback road until near the top where we bought tickets to what is left of an ancient town perched on top of the hill. Absolutely amazing how they lived up there. It was incredibly windy and very blustery which at times made us unsteady on our feet. This place dates to the 3rd century BC and it is just remarkable what is left and how clever ...

Day 22. Santorini

Another picture perfect morning which began for me at least with a swim in the pool. After another late breakfast we wandered off to find the steps to beach about 400m below us. Found them ok but turns out the track is closed due to rockfall. Assessed the situation and pressed on, Nice little harbour where I had a swim and we took refreshments. O  After this we slogged it back up the steps and needed to swim in the pool and a lie down. Last night at dinner the chef noted that we were predominantly ordering fish. He told us he had been fishing that morning and he caught a grouper that would feed all of us if we were interested. He even showed us a picture. We ARE interested.  I have been salivating and starving myself in anticipation of this fish and it turns out the fish was too big to be cooked in their grill. Noooool!  So they have promised two more fish for the day after tomorrow so we will see.  We still had a very nice meal.
