Day 160. Had Lamae Resort - Songkhla
We have travelled over 400km today. Pretty good going. The countryside is very nice in this area. All green bush and trees. We have headed inland as we make towards the border. Thai drivers are generally pretty good. The speed limit is 90 but most people travel 100-110 with some going a bit faster but not silly. I have seen no evidence that there is any speed enforcement or enforcement of any road rules for that matter. Thai drivers are patient and seem happy to comply. There are checkpoints but they just seem to check people’s paperwork.

At about 2pm the skies darkened at it began to rain. We pulled into a service area and had a drink. There seemed little point in continuing as we were less than 70km from the border and we had no intention of crossing today. We found a place just off the main road so headed there.
The bike was almost due for an oil change so I headed off to find a store. Songkhla is a large city and I found a very large Kawasaki dealer but they didn’t want to know about a Triumph. They told me there was a Triumph dealer so after a bit of navigation hassle I found it.
Another large dealership with about 50 brand new bikes on the showroom floor. They were not busy and got work straight away. I also managed to replace Robyn’s gloves.
All sorted I made my way back through rush hour traffic. I passed a large Royal Enfield showroom and then a large Harley dealership, it seems to be motorbike central but we haven’t seen any big bikes on the road.
We went for dinner at a local restaurant, the young lad from our motel walked us there and helped us order, at his suggestions I just nodded and we ended up with 2 seafood dishes, we haven’t even got over our tummy troubles fully.
What was I thinking!!
The first dish wasn’t too bad, but the 2nd dish was just like Pokhara with fish eyes peering out at us through the spicy broth. We couldn’t do it.
We feigned full stomachs and raised the white flag as we scuttled back home.
The only photograph for today. The fountain outside our unit. The lights only worked on this side and not quite to the top.
Bike is tucked up under a verandah.
