Day 166. Cameron Highlands - Kuala Lumpur

It was funny packing the bike today knowing that it was for the last time. 



The descent from the Cameron Highlands was a delight, narrow winding roads with beautiful bush scenery in cool mountain air. 





Before we knew it we were on the motorway and heading for the megatropolis of Kuala Lumpur. 
What a massive city. 



We entered from the north and are staying in the south closer to the airport. 



We navigated the labyrinth of the motorways and found our hotel ok

Our hotel is quite large with apartments as well as hotel rooms. 
There is a large shopping complex nearby so we should be ok here for a few days. Also the carpark has a carwash with very obliging man so things are falling into place. 

The next few days we will be busy organising the shipping for the bike and cleaning it thoroughly for NZ customs. 

Suddenly  our journey comes to an end. 
It hasn’t sunk in yet. 

So this is the last daily post. Thank you all for reading it.  It had been a wonderful link to the real world for us, just seeing how many people are interested in our trip has been amazing. And thanks for all the posts, likes and messages we really have appreciated it. 

There will be more posts documenting our progress just not every day.

    You made it! Fabulous trio you are! The Great Road Trip of 2019 is now finished but who knows where you ride next... Always exciting to plan new adventures. It was pleasure to ride with you through Uzbekistan. Looking forward to meet you again, somewhere, on the road perhaps.

This journey doesn’t seem to want to end. Firstly we had to wait in the plane in Bali for 20 minutes so we wouldn’t arrive in Sydney before the 6am opening time.  We were expecting to land in Sydney in a few minutes when the captain informs us there has been a major malfunction with air traffic control and the landing time scheduled for us is outside the window of fuel remaining on board. So we diverted to Canberra for more fuel and a new flight plan to return to Sydney.  We arrived in Sydney 3 hours late and someone had parked their plane in our space!  Of course we missed our connection to Auckland.  We are booked on an afternoon flight, it could have been worse.  We had a lovely day with Paddy and Jules in Auckland with a nice brunch followed by a walk on a local walkway. Very relaxing in the warm sunshine. On Monday we collected the bike with no fuss, it was great to be reunited.   We then had a miserable  ride to Cambridge in torrential rain....

Day 116. Bilaspur - Sema Kui

A big day for us today. Around 280km which included about a 15km detour due to a navigation error. We set off about 8:30 and arrived at the hotel at about 5:45. It probably sounds like I’m riding like a nana but I don’t think I could go any faster without increasing the already substantial risk factor exponentially. Met this big bugger on one of our unplanned detours. No one was messing with him!  Today I gave up any hope of fine tuning the suspension and have wound out both the compression and rebound dampers on the rear shock, we bounce along a bit but it is easier on both the bike and the bum.  I’m not going to drone on about the roads and the traffic just take it as read. We think Alf was letting us know he was keeping an eye on us. A real mixture of road conditions and temperatures today, from comfortably warm to bloody hot and humid. Day 84. Karakol - Barskoon

Yay back on the road. Only a short ride today but it is good to be moving again. So just about 80km today, we are still in wait mode. Lots of these houses feature in this area. Makes a change from the dreary apartment blocks built by the Soviets. Lots of people fishing in this bay. We are on the lake shore of Issyk Kul, the weather is perfect so we are having a beach afternoon, sunbathing and swimming. The only thing spoiling it is the litter. Arrrhhh. Looks like the sea, smells like the sea but its a lake a salty one. Went for a short ride after the beach and came across another small village and this monument. Sharing the road and the view with the locals.
