Day 156. Saraburi - Cha Am
Down the motorway this morning, the traffic was quite busy and it got busier the closer we got to Bangkok.

This big fella was quite happy sitting on the road.

A colourful street near our hotel.
By the time we hit the outer suburbs it was really busy but at least it was moving except for a couple of pinch points.
We spied a tollway up ahead so I took the ramp up to the toll booth.
No go, they insisted we turn around and go back.
I said absolutely not, I am not driving the wrong way down a ramp in Bangkok, are you mad!
So the cops were called passports shown, number plate photographed and we got to drive on the tollway as far as the first offramp.
So that’s twice now we have had police escorts to see us off motorways.
Tomtom then took over but it was confusing until I changed the settings to avoid tollways.
We navigated our way through Bangkok, thank goodness it was a Sunday.
After we cleared the southern suburbs the route took us off the motorway along a good but narrow road. We wound through lovely little villages and reed marshes as well as some cultivated wetlands. Very pretty.

We also caught our first sight of the sea.
We are in a town called Cha Am. It is quite a resort down. Lots of hotels, restaurants and guest houses.
A colourful street near our hotel.
A very long beach and as far as the eye could see in both directions, umbrellas and deck chairs reaching almost into the sea.
A nice walk along the beach is not possible here.
The sea was full of kids having a great time in the waves. We took a paddle, the water was tepid, not my idea of a refreshing dip.
Just like yesterday there were two footy games to watch, a sports bar will be a prerequisite next weekend.
We had a nice meal out and asked for medium spicy, luckily there was a 7/11 not far away so we could dowse the flames with an ice cream afterwards.
Maybe the Welsh dragon should eat here before next weekend.
Impressed you managed to ride through Bangkok, crazy place!
ReplyDeleteGreat you’ve been able to follow the rugby. Take care on those roads.
Very lucky it was early and Sunday!
