Day 149 Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai

Last night we visited the walking street, which is shut off to traffic at night and becomes a street food market. Very popular. There was also a stage set up with performers belting out the tunes and a massive dance area which was jam packed. The dancers seemed to alternate between free style and what could be the Thai gay gordons.

It was a lovely family atmosphere for young and old alike.

We are sorry to leave Chiang Rai and our lovely hotel, I think we may return one day.

Today we headed to Chiang Mai. It is at least 15 years since were last here, I’ll bet it has changed.

It was a nice ride down here, good roads except for about 30km of roadworks which happened to coincide with a torrential downpour. Joy.

Much of the road is new which has confused both Tomtom and maps.me but we got here.

We have another nice hotel and we will stay here for 2 or 3 days to recharge and also to take care of some chores like new tyres.
It seems like forever since we had a day off and we’re a wee bit tired. It seems like I have had a dose of giardia which I’ve had since Pokhara. Luckily we had the tablets especially for it so after trying other remedies there didn’t seem like it could be anything else. Thanks Reijo for your diagnosis.
We have lazed by the pool this afternoon.

Our thoughts are drifting homewards as the compass takes a definite turn to the south.
