Day 142. Gangaw - Bagan

An early rooftop  breakfast this morning, lovely atmosphere with music and wood smoke rising from the village and the views over the lush bush to the far off mist covered hills was breathtaking. It is also nice and cool.

We then set off on our clean bike amd clean riding gear into over 100km of windy hill country. Beautiful tree lined road with many picturesque little villages along the way.

After our final descent we travelled on long narrow roads through the flat lands. Very fertile land, very pretty with many workers toiling away.

Quite a different landscape now.

This man had such a heavy load and it was hot. Our guide and driver stopped and gave him a drink.

Note the clean bike and jacket😀

We knew we were nearing our destination when we spied the mighty Irrawaddy river. It is massive and we crossed possibly the longest bridge I have ever been across.

The clouds ahead were ominously black and sure enough it began to rain.

We then stopped for lunch, delicious vege spring rolls followed by deep fried banana and honey.

A short hop to the “Serene Smile” hotel which is very nice and has a pool which is where I am writing this.
Lots of porters to help with the luggage, you may think we don’t have much and that is true but it is all in little bits, laptop paperwork and chargers for everything. Clothes. Shoes. Tank bags (2) helmets gloves etc then there’s the phone, gps, spot tracker, gopro and gopro remote, it usually takes us two trips from room to bike.

Bagan is famous for its 3500 stupas and from what we have seen so far it is very impressive.

A sneak preview of what’s to come tomorrow.

The Heidenau tyres I have been exalting recently are actually done and the back one has developed a few cracks so I have just arranged some new ones in Chiang Mai.

  1. Great photos of you on the bike from behind...good to see the roads have improved somewhat. Looking forward to to hearing of your experiences in Myanmar and Chang Mai, with family connections living there
