Day 108. Amritsar - Ludhiana

It is good to be moving again and to welcome TomTom back into the team, he has been MIA for a long time now. We farewelled the lovely team at the hotel and they surprised us with a nice farewell gesture.

Leaving Amritsar.

The road was excellent today apart from a couple of road works related snarl ups which have been made muddy by recent monsoon downpours. The heat when we slow slow down is something else, with the high humidity we are dripping wet.

Some retail therapy options along the way.

The LPU - Lovely Professional University.

Always interesting who you get to share the road with on this trip.

Negotiating the narrow streets of Ludhiana was tough and at one stage I glanced at the temp gauge, 45C, wish I hadn’t seen it!

Our destination is the lovely home of Suresh and Anju Soni who have agreed to share their lives with us for a couple of days. They are the parents of Priya who works with Catherine at Ag Research. They have made us feel very welcome and have greeted us with true Indian hospitality. We feel very lucky to have this opportunity.

We have had a lovely lunch and then after a rest we visited Suresh’s workplace. He works at the inland Revenue office.
They have an amazing initiative going there. There are using plastic bottles to grow plants, creating living walls around the building.

We got to talk with the man who started it and he told us about what else is happening. This initiative has spread to other workplaces and into schools. They have also created seed bombs that are made with soil etc and have a native seed in them. They are designed to be thrown at random around the countryside so that more native trees will grow. One way to get the seeds distributed is bags of seed bombs are given out at the motorway toll booths.
This is what happens at the IRD in Ludhiana India, amazing.

Later in the day we were lucky enough to be invited to the temple Suresh and Anju attend. There was a special celebration going on for the God Ganesh’s birthday. Lots of singing by the women, Robyn was invited to sit with them. We felt particularly privileged to be part of this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

In the evening we went to the local Club and had a nice meal there.
