Notes on the gear.
Some of you have been asking about bits of kit so I’ll start this post and if you’re subscribed (it’s free) You will get an update notification when I think of new things to add.
Feel free to ask questions.
Riding gear.
Rev’it. Airflow Mesh.
So far it has proven very good. In the hotter weather it allows very good air flow although we are yet to fully test this aspect. Layering up in cold and wet conditions is the way to go.
Robyn’s jacket has white trim and the collar shows all the dirt. I think there are other options but not available when we purchased. So don’t recommend this option even though it looks good. (When clean)
Camping gear.
We ditched it. We have kept 1 sleeping bag and the two sleeping bag liners.
Only time will tell if this was the right decision. Even with having the latest and lightest stuff we have shed almost 10kg and a lot of volume.
Scott oiler
Working really well. I do keep adjusting it to make the oil last as long as possible. I have the extra touring tank and this is working fine.
Go pro
I hate the fing thing. The batteries last about 5 minutes even on standby so when you finally have something worth recording you have no battery. I will perservere and collect what footage I can. As for Go Pro Quik I cannot get a handle on it. As Reijo quipped there should be Go Pro slow for people our age.
Charging systems on the bike
Working well with the constant charging of all the bits and pieces.
Intercom: Sena 20
Brilliant
Really good sound and we connect easily. I have also connected it to the Tomtom. I’m not a fan of music when riding so haven’t tried it. Great battery life.
They do have a weakness. They should be removed from the helmets when it’s raining.
Topbox
I’ve never liked them and I still don’t like them. I doubt we will ever have one again. Heavier than what goes in them and constantly jars on Robyn’s back on rough roads. Would fit a proper back rest and a soft bag behind it.
Soft panniers.
Andy Strapz
So far so good. Generally leave them on the bike and just remove the liner bag.
Helmets
At the last minute I packed my racing full face helmet instead of my flip front
It has bigger and more vents and visor comes off in a second. It is also lighter. Good decision for me.
Robyn stuck with flip front and likes it.
Tomtom
Worth its weight in gold.
Nitron shock absorber (built for the bike)
Right up there at No1 alongside the Tomtom
SPOT tracker. Hope we don’t need it in an emergency but it is tracking our progress and sending all is well messages.
