Day 33. Goreme -Corum

Well we’re into month 2 on the road now and our 7th week away. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Big day today. Decided to go find this salt lake and see what all the fuss is about. In true Tomtom style it offered us an alternative after about 59ks. The road was bloody awful, twisting and turning and finally we reached a reasonable sized town and this was our destination..,,, only it wasn’t.
Route recalculation got us back on track but only after a significant back track.
A commission of inquiry will need to investigate what went wrong. I’ll keep you posted.

Anyway we finally got to this large lake and eventually saw tour buses and and a full car-park so this must be it. Everyone off with their shoes and paddling around in 6 inch deep water or actually salt brine. Was it worth the effort to get there ABSOLUTELY not!

Can you tell Mark is not so impressed.

So we then set off for our destination for the night, a dual carriageway with no traffic and bumps that would jiggle your kidneys for the next 60km. Thankfully it got better.

Then looking ahead there were some ominous looking clouds. We climbed and climbed up into this mountain range and then the heavens opened, nowhere to hide, the only option was to ride through it. Man did it rain, the road was just running, even the cars slowed down and put their hazard lights on. At one point I did paraphrase the words of George Lowe " you know Robyn, some people might not think this is fun"

So after finding that our devices could locate every hotel for miles around except ours we finally just guessed where it should be and bingo there it was.
This hotel cost 34 Euro and it is probably the flashest one we’ve stayed in up to now., complete with swimming pool and spa.
So picture this huge reception area with beautifully polished tile floor and two drowned kiwi rats rock up looking like something the cat dragged in. Our luggage is not pretty at the best of times. People just looked at us with their mouths open.

Corum is a large industrial town with I’m sure some attractions, but for us its just a bed for the night as we make our way north.
Anyway it was a big day for us so dinner and bed.

Footnote. Flash hotel , crap food.
However and I know all you globetrotters out there will roll your eyes, but we discovered Google Translate camera function. Brilliant. Who knew????

Comments

  1. You will both be deserving a good rest. Glad you are both safe though even if a tad wet and worn out. You look very tanned Robyn! As I have said before, loving your blog.
