Day 2 Reims to Beaune

Awoke to drizzle and a bit cold.
First bit of bike maintenance, the mirror took a knock so re-tightened it. If thats the worst of it then sweet*
First issue of the day was getting out of the hotel carpark, steep ramp up to the automatic door, except it wasn't automatic for bikes was it! Very soon a car came up behind me but still no action, car reversed and then I reversed which kind of looked like a crab walking backwards, in the meantime I was getting hot and my bloody glasses steamed up. Car drove up to the door and Abracadabra the door opened.

Very low and mist temperature got down to 10 which was a bit chilly at 130Kph. Even the hot flushes couldn’t keep up.
First stop Troyes, very pretty little place where we had a wander around and a stretch.






On to Dijon which has a very impressive old town which we wandered around and grabbed a bit of lunch. Lots of people about, almost all local tourists I suspect.



Bed for the night is Beaune. The bedroom isn't that much bigger than the bed but because we cooperate so very well we will be fine*

Looking forward to the weather warming up and a bit of blue sky it has been duller than dull.

Beaune is a lovely town with a really cool old town. Wall to wall wine stores and the beautiful people sipping wine in the streetside cafes. Nice to be here in May, I hate to think how busy this place must be in summer.

Another lovely day -  another very nice breakfast. Sorry to say goodbye to this spot but needs must. A lovely drive along the coast on motorcycle friendly roads. Wonderful views and the roads fairly quiet. Arrived for coffee in the seaside resort town of Sarande, lovely little harbour town with a couple of visiting super yachts moored in the bay. From here we rode through a national park until a river blocked our path, for 300 Lek we were transported to the other side on a wooden barge.  From here we had about 20k to navigate over rough and narrow country lanes until finally emerging back on the highway. Quick stop for gas then the border which was quick and straightforward. We have loved our time in Albania and could have spent more time exploring this hospitable country. Auckland - Home

This journey doesn’t seem to want to end. Firstly we had to wait in the plane in Bali for 20 minutes so we wouldn’t arrive in Sydney before the 6am opening time.  We were expecting to land in Sydney in a few minutes when the captain informs us there has been a major malfunction with air traffic control and the landing time scheduled for us is outside the window of fuel remaining on board. So we diverted to Canberra for more fuel and a new flight plan to return to Sydney.  We arrived in Sydney 3 hours late and someone had parked their plane in our space!  Of course we missed our connection to Auckland.  We are booked on an afternoon flight, it could have been worse.  We had a lovely day with Paddy and Jules in Auckland with a nice brunch followed by a walk on a local walkway. Very relaxing in the warm sunshine. On Monday we collected the bike with no fuss, it was great to be reunited.   We then had a miserable  ride to Cambridge in torrential rain....

Kuala Lumpur. Airport

We packed up the bike with the gear that will accompany it.  The first mission was to drive 50kms to our airport home stay.  Robyn went by Grab taxi and was there in an hour. I took almost 2 hours. I got tangled up in the spaghetti junctions and then Tomtom and maps.me started to disagree but we got there in the end.  The weather gods have been particularly unkind with constant rain overnight and this morning. By the time I got there it was just spitting but the damage was done the bike was dirty again so out with the hose and washed it down.  We dropped our clothes and bits and pieces at the guesthouse and then headed for the airport to send the bike on its journey home.  The first obstacle was the day ticket office. When I booked the bike they gave me a booking number and this was all I would need apparently.
